Lacoste - History
A simple bet made on the streets of Boston, it has made history in both tennis and fashion.

Nicknamed the "crocodile", following a bet with his tennis captain, René Lacoste made this animal unique by turning it into an iconic logo of his brand.

Like many other success stories, the Lacoste story begins with an anecdote.

Boston, 1930. René Lacoste walks the streets of the city accompanied by the captain of his tennis team, Alan Muhr, one afternoon, before a match. An elegant crocodile leather suitcase pops into his shop window. So, it's time for a bet: if René wins the match, Alan buys his suitcase. René does not win the match, but journalist George Carens hears about this story and writes an article about it in the Boston Evening Transcript: of the "crocodile".
